With temperatures expected to drop over the next week few days, a local shelter is opening its doors to ensure those in need can escape the cold.
Starting Thursday night, Chatham Hope Haven will be operating as an overnight warming centre from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. until Saturday. The shelter is located at 183 Wellington Street West in Chatham.
The temperature in Chatham-Kent is expected to fall to -5 C overnight on Thursday, with wind chill values in the double digits.
Anyone in need of transportation to the shelter can call the Homeless Response Line at 519-354-6628.
During extreme cold weather events, residents are encouraged to call or visit friends and neighbours who may be at risk. Pets should also be kept inside.
