Shoplifting in Chatham Leads to Three Arrests

Three people have been arrested following a shoplifting incident in Chatham.

Authorities say the trio went into a St Clair Street business on Sunday and left without paying for several items.

Video surveillance helped to identify the suspects and all three were soon located and arrested, although one of the accused allegedly gave officers fake name and tried to flee on foot. After a short chase, the man was taken back into custody.

A 42-year-old man was charged with theft and possess of stolen property under $5000. He was released with a future court date.

A 23-year-old was also charged with theft and possession of stolen property. A 26-year-old man has been charged with theft and possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and obstructing police. Both of those men were the subject of arrest warrants from other police agencies and were held in custody for bail hearings.
