With the navigational season now in full swing, the Downtown Wallaceburg BIA is making it easier and more convenient for boaters to pass under bridges over the Sydenham River.
BIA Chair David McCarron said any boater needing one of the operational bridges in Wallaceburg opened, can now submit a request online to ensure the span is opened when needed.
“We’ve received a lot of complaints over the years about bridges not being able to be opened in a reasonable timeframe when boaters are coming through,” said McCarron
Operational bridges in Wallaceburg include the Baseline Bridge, Lord Selkirk Bridge, Lou Stonehouse Bridge, Murray Bridge, and Dundas Bridge.
Through a partnership with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and the BIA, the booking system can be accessed through the BIA website by clicking here.
“From there, you’re going to be able to fill out a form indicating when you’re going to be coming through with your boat, your type of boat and your contact information, so the municipality will be able to have somebody at the bridge ready to open it for you as you come to pass through,” said McCarron. “We hope this will really make entering Wallaceburg a lot more feasible and a lot more convenient for our boaters.”
Online bridge opening requests should submitted at least one hour prior to arrival.
According to the municipality’s website, requests for bridge openings can also be made by calling 1-855-945-1776.
CK Public Works employees can operate movable bridges during the navigational season from May 15 to October 15.
