Chatham-Kent has once again avoided notoriety by being left off the annual list of the worst roads in the region.
The CAA Worst Roads campaign was launched March 27th, inviting area residents to submit problem areas when it comes to local transportation.
The results have now been released with the top five contenders in southwestern Ontario including Plank Road in Sarnia, Tecumseh Road East in Windsor, Sarnia’s Blackwell Sideroad, Windsor’s Lauzon parkway, and a tie for fifth place between University Avenue West in Windsor and Petrolia’s Tank Street.
Officials say the annual Worst Roads campaign gives decision makers a snapshot of the roads the public perceives as not meeting their expectations and shines a spotlight on where work is needed the most.
A statement from the Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario (RCCAO,) which supports the Worst Roads campaign as a technical partner, says it is imperative for both federal and provincial governments to collaborate and provide municipalities with essential infrastructure funding.
“This year’s campaign revealed growing competition on Ontario’s deteriorating infrastructure amidst a growing state of good repair backlog,” said Nadia Todorova, RCCAO Executive Director. “Long-term, sustainable funding is needed to build and maintain critical infrastructure.”
