A local man is facing drug and assault charges following a domestic disturbance in Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to Grand Avenue West on Tuesday shortly before 8 p.m., after a verbal argument between a man and woman escalated.

Authorities said the man allegedly assaulted and threatened to harm the woman.

Upon arrival, officers learned the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in connection to a theft investigation. A search of the man also allegedly turned up suspected methamphetamine.

A 36-year-old Chatham-Kent man is now charged with assault, uttering threats, possession of a controlled substance, theft, two counts of mischief, and two counts of possession of stolen property. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
