Anyone looking for a fun way to celebrate with dad this Father’s Day weekend can pack up their fishing rods and tackle boxes.
The Ontario government has announced that residents will be able to fish for free from June 15 and 16.
Over one million licensed anglers spend $1.75 billion per year on recreational fishing in Ontario.
“Father’s Day weekend is a great time to get out on one of Ontario’s beautiful lakes or rivers and enjoy fishing,” said Graydon Smith, Minister of Natural Resources. “Fishing is a fun activity for everyone in the family and it’s a great way to spend time together.”
Outside of free fishing periods, most Canadians 18 and older but under 65 must have an Outdoors Card and a fishing licence to fish in Ontario.
Those taking advantage of this weekend’s free fishing period should be sure to follow all conservation license catch limits and carry ID issued by the provincial or federal government.
The last annual free fishing event this year will be Family Fishing Week (June 29-July 7) to celebrate Canada Day.
