A long-time Chatham-Kent police officer has been appointed as the next chief of police for LaSalle.

The LaSalle Police Services Board has announced that Inspector Michael Pearce will fill the role of police chief, effective July 29. Pearce will replace Chief Duncan Davies, who is retiring later this year.

“Pearce impressed the selection committee with his vision for enhancing public safety, strengthening community relations, and implementing innovative strategies to address the evolving challenges facing law enforcement today. As mayor, I am confident that Chief Designate Pearce will continue to uphold our town’s values of integrity, accountability, and transparency within the police department, and I look forward to working closely with him to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents of the Town of LaSalle,” said Mayor Meloche, LaSalle’s mayor and chair of the LaSalle Police Services Board.

Pearce began his policing career in 2002 with the York Regional Police before joining the Chatham-Kent Police Service in 2007. He became the service’s first Public Information Officer in 2009 before joining the Traffic Unit in 2012. Pearce moved up the ranks over the years and was promoted to the rank of Inspector in 2021, assuming command of the Community Patrol Branch.

A change of command ceremony will be held in LaSalle at a later date.
