Provincial Police are urging area residents to be on guard with another scam making the rounds.

Officials with the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centres, the OPP, and RCMP have issued a warning about scam artists claiming to be helping the Anti-Fraud Centre with an ongoing investigation.

Authorities say the culprits use CAFC letterhead and logos or spoof police phone numbers, claim to be bank investigators or tech support, and ask for credit card information and other personal information.

Anyone who suspects they have been the victim of fraud is urged to contact their local police, the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca. You can also report to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s online reporting system or by phone at 1-888-495-8501. For resources on scams and fraud, visit antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
