A Gun Shows Up At A Police RIDE Check

Chatham-Kent Police conducted several RIDE checks at various locations around the municipality Saturday night and claimed it was a success.

They stopped 367 vehicles and issued only 2 tickets.

One was to a Chatham man for firearms related offences.

A stop at Grand and Grant turned up a man police say had a weapon in his car.

He had earlier such offences in 1999 and 2014 and was placed on conditions not to possess any weapons or ammunition.

The Ride check turned up a loaded gun and drugs in the vehicle.

He was charged with several offences including unauthorized possession of a fire arm, unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, carry a concealed weapon, and possession of a weapon obtained by offence.

He was held pending a bail hearing.
