The Ontario government’s move to increase natural gas availability cleared an important hurdle.
Bill 32 passed second reading yesterday. If it goes through, the legislation would facilitate the expansion of access to natural gas across the province.
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP and Infrastructure Minister Monte McNaughton says he couldn’t be happier.
“If this legislation passes, 33,000 homes across Ontario, mostly in rural and northern Ontario, will have access to natural gas,” McNaughton says. “This will lower costs for businesses who are spending a lot of money with electric heat, and providing natural gas to those businesses and homeowners is going to save on their energy costs.”
Bill 32 received all-party support in the Legislature, and is the first piece of legislation the Ministry of Infrastructure has introduced since 2015.
McNaughton says he hopes it will will get through third and final reading in the next few weeks.
