Despite a dozen new cases of COVID-19 identified in Chatham-Kent, the municipality’s overall numbers are holding steady.

The daily report from Public Health includes 12 new cases and 12 recoveries, keeping the active caseload steady at 116.

Since July 1st, 71% of cases in Chatham-Kent are among unvaccinated residents. 20.6% are either partially vaccinated, not fully protected, or have an unknown vaccination status.

There are still two active outbreaks in the municipality, including the rehab unit at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, holding steady at 3 total cases. The number of infections linked to a community setting outbreak at Praise Fellowship Church in Chatham has risen to 13.

There are 16 local residents being treated for the virus at the Health Alliance, four of whom are in the ICU. Of the 16 COVID patients, 14 are not fully vaccinated.

Beds at CKHA are filling up – the ICU is sitting at 80% capacity, while medical, surgical, and critical care occupancy is 96%.

Five hospital staff are currently off work after either testing positive for COVID or being exposed to the virus.

Meantime, you can add another school to the list of those dealing with a case of COVID-19 this fall.

According to the Lambton-Kent District School Board website, one student from A.A. Wright in Wallaceburg has tested positive for the virus. It’s not clear how many students or staff have been dismissed as contact tracing continues.

There are now six public schools in Chatham-Kent with at least one confirmed case since classes started up last week: two each at McNaughton and Victor Lauriston Public Schools and John McGregor Secondary School, and one at both Tecumseh Public School and CKSS.

The only Chatham-Kent school within the St Clair Catholic board affected is St Anne in Blenheim with one confirmed student case.
