With the local real estate market booming and historically low rental vacancy rates, Chatham-Kent is undergoing a housing crisis for many residents, with it becoming harder and harder for low income households to find suitable, affordable rental homes
It’s a challenge that Chatham-Kent council will look into at a special council meeting scheduled for tonight.
The meeting will feature a presentation from Chatham-Kent administration on housing and homelessness in the municipality. As well, there will be a report on shelter options for Chatham-Kent and recommendations to encourage and develop affordable housing locally.
Also as part of tonight’s meeting, council will likely approve the design and builder for the construction of a 27 unit affordable housing project on McNaughton Ave. in Chatham.
