Ag Deal Signed With Peru

A trip to Peru is paying dividends for Chatham-Kent.hope-apec-deal

While in Lima for the recent APEC summit, municipal officials signed an agreement to open new markets and increase processing and distribution for agricultural products, both in Peru and Chatham-Kent.

Mayor Randy Hope says it’s based on the municipality’s RAFTS program to address issues ranging from processing and storage to distribution and logistics.

“What this does is open up our first real opportunity in Peru during the lengthy meetings we had about Chatham-Kent’s Rural Agricultural Food Technology Systems,” Hope says. “It’s one that we’ve been working on for the last three years, and we feel very positive that they’re as energized as we are about it.”

The mayor hopes the deal will spur the province to lend its support to the program as well and open more doors in the future.
