Chatham-Kent’s agriculture sector has been pulling together to make a positive impact those in need. positivity-ag-day

Louie Roesch and the Kent Federation of Agriculture and about a dozen other local groups donated a ton of ground pork to area food banks.

“We’re finishing off the ground pork for the food bank and Salvation Army, which we started for Food Freedom Day,” Roesch says. “They asked us this year to spread it out because there’s a ton this year, so it’s a little heavy on their space, so we’ve kept it and worked it through.”

Curtis Ayler is offering up his field of peppers near Wallaceburg to help those in need through the Public Health Unit’s gleaning project.

“The stuff that they’re gleaning is stuff that doesn’t meet the customer’s specifications, certain size and colour…there’s nothing wrong with it,” Ayler explains, “there’s a lot of stuff that’s unmarketable, but it’s perfect to donate to food banks.”

Meantime, the 12 days of Positivity continues with Seniors Day today.

Events are being held at several seniors’ homes across Chatham-Kent, including the Oaks Retirement Village in Wallaceburg.
