A Chatham man is facing charges after two bicycles were stolen during a break-and-enter.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said someone broke into a garage at a residence on Prince Arthur Avenue in Chatham on Wednesday and stole various items, including two bikes.
On Thursday, the owner spotted a man riding one of their bicycles at an apartment complex on Pine Street. Following a confrontation, the owner was able to recover the bike.
Officers were called to the same location just before 9 a.m. after the second bike was seen on a back patio. A suspect was arrested when he returned to the area. When officers searched the suspect’s apartment, they allegedly recovered another stolen bike and other property linked to a separate break-and-enter.
A 42-year-old Chatham man is now charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000. Following a bail hearing, the man was remanded into custody and will be held at the Southwest Regional Detention Center until his next court appearance.
