Alleged Repeat Offender Back In Police Custody

A Chatham-Kent man is facing additional charges following a break-and-enter at a school and the theft of an e-bike.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to an alarm at a school on William Street North in Chatham at around 4:30 a.m. on August 9, and discovered that the rear door had been broken. The keyholder of the building walked through the school with the officers and determined that items had been stolen from the building.

Using surveillance footage, officers identified a suspect, a 29-year-old Chatham-Kent man, who was arrested at a convenience store on Grand Avenue West the following day.

When the accused failed to show up for his scheduled court date, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Then, on Wednesday, police received a report that an e-bike had been stolen from a farm on Bloomfield Road in Chatham.

The suspect was located on Queen Street on Thursday shortly before 2 a.m., allegedly in possession of the stolen e-bike.

The 29-year-old was arrested again and held for a bail hearing. He is facing multiple charges, including break and enter to commit mischief and theft under $5,000. Police have not released a list of charges in connection with the e-bike theft.
