A local man will have to answer to a judge in court after he was allegedly caught stealing from a Chatham store.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a man entered a store on St. Clair Street shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Monday, selected merchandise from the shelves, then attempted to leave without paying.
However, the man was stopped by store security and held until police arrived.
A 31-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and is now charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
He was later released from custody with a future court date.
