A case of shoplifting in Chatham has landed a man from Walpole Island First Nation with charges.
Chatham-Kent Police responded to a business on St Clair Street shortly after noon on Monday and say a man went into the building, opened an alcoholic beverage and began drinking it inside the store. Staff asked the man to leave, which he did, but later returned and allegedly stole some merchandise.
The accused was found a short distance away.
The 30-year-old man is now charged with theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property under $5000. He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
