Being barred from attending a local store has not deterred an alleged shoplifter in Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service was contacted by a loss prevention officer at a St. Clair Street retail store on Thursday, just before 7:30 a.m., after a man was seen concealing items within the store.
Authorities responded and located a suspect in a nearby parking lot. It was also learned that the accused was under several orders, prohibiting him from attending the store.
As a result, a 55-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, failing to comply with a probation order, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
