Police have tracked down an alleged shoplifter more than a year after a theft at a Chatham business.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to an unspecified retail store on May 15, 2024, after a man was seen placing merchandise into a shopping cart and leaving through an emergency exit without paying.
Investigators were able to identify a suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Officers located the man at a Ridgetown address on Monday shortly before 3 p.m. and took him into custody.
The 40-year-old from Sarnia is now charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He was later turned over to the Ontario Provincial Police in Lambton County for other outstanding warrants.
