A local woman is facing charge after an altercation at a Chatham business over the weekend.

Chatham-Kent Police responded to a Grand Avenue West store shortly after noon on Sunday and say a woman who had previously been banned from the business was refusing to leave and allegedly got into a physical altercation with an employee, resulting in minor injuries.

The woman fled before officers arrived but was found nearby a short time later. When officers tried to arrest her, authorities say she tried to take off again, leading to a brief foot chase.

The 32-year-old was eventually taken into custody and held at police headquarters for a bail hearing.

She is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, escaping lawful custody, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
