A former hospital employee and Erieau resident is the grand prize winner of a holiday 50/50 draw in support of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA).
Carol Heuvelmans will take home the $59,545 jackpot after her ticket was drawn on Thursday as part of the inaugural Igniting Healthcare Holiday 50/50 fundraiser, organized by the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation.
Heuvelmans said she has been supporting the summer editions of the 50/50 lottery every year since 2019.
“I worked at the hospital for eighteen years, so I’ve been supporting the Foundation’s 50/50s since the beginning, but I never actually thought I would win,” said Heuvelmans in a news release. “This is an amazing Christmas surprise, and I think I might spoil some of my loved ones a little more this year.”
In addition to sharing some of her winnings with loved ones over the holidays, Heuvelmans said she and her husband, Leo, plan to use some of the money towards a trip to Portugal next year.
The fundraiser raised a grand total of $119,090, with half of the proceeds going to support the areas of greatest need at CKHA’s Chatham and Wallaceburg sites.
