A Chatham man is being charged with four counts of animal cruelty.

According to the Lambton-Kent SPCA, an officer removed a dog from a Chatham property back in May after receiving a call from a concerned resident.

The officer found a one-year-old medium sized dog with an injured leg. After examination, it was found the dog had experienced direct trauma to its pelvis and leg region.

The accused is being charged with permitting distress to an animal, failing to provide medical attention, failing to comply with an OSPCA Act order, and one count of obstructing an agent.

“Owning an animal comes with the legal responsibility of caring for them when in need not only when convenient,” says Agent Ryan Sparks. “Permitting an animal to suffer and be in distress is absolutely not acceptable.”

The man will be in court to face the charges later this month.
