Another year, another round of inductions into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame that does not include the Chatham Coloured All-Stars.
First nominated in 2017, the historic 1934 team was the first all-black team to win a provincial championship in Ontario, but entry to the Hall remains elusive.
Inductees this year include former Toronto Blue Jay Jose Bautista, Canadian junior national team head coach Greg Hamilton, women’s national team star Amanda Asay, and All-American Girls Professional Baseball League legend Arleene Noga, among others.
However, the trailblazing All Stars remains on the ballot and will be eligible for induction for the last time in 2026.
The Baseball Hall of Fame selection committee is made up of 24 members comprised of historians, past inductees, media and baseball executives. To be inducted into the hall of fame, a candidate must receive votes from 75 per cent of the committee members.
The local team isn’t without its honours though, having previously been inducted into the Ontario Baseball Hall of Fame and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
