A new anti-wind group is holding its first public meeting tonight. Wallaceburg Area Wind Concerns will be meeting tonight to discuss the upcoming Otter Creek Wind Farm.

Spokesman Dan Donkers says residents are worried about the effects the proposed project will have.

“What we’re trying to do is present the information we’ve gathered so far and see if we can put this project on hold until we can sort out exactly what’s going on,” Donkers explains. “We’re presuming that they’re going to have to use pile driving and strike in the bedrock the same as they’re doing with North Kent 1, so the risks are the same here.”

The Otter Creek turbines will be the largest in Chatham-Kent, almost 50 metres taller than those in the North Kent project.

“We don’t have a whole lot of factual data on what kind of noise levels they’re going to emit, we have models but we’d like to see the actual scientific data.”

A number of guest speakers are lined up, including Lambton Kent Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton, and Warren Howard, the head of Wind Concerns Ontario, talking about his experiences dealing with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change when it comes to noise and health concerns associated with wind turbines.

The meeting gets underway at 7 o’clock at the UAW Hall at 88 Elm Drive South in Wallaceburg.
