The Chatham-Kent Police Service is giving local residents a behind-the-scenes look at what officers and other police staff do on a daily basis.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is billed as an opportunity to engage directly with police officers and learn about key aspects of modern police work.

The academy is made up of 12 weekly courses, including hands-on learning, facility tours, and a ride-along with a community patrol officer. Participants will also be given presentations from Major Crime, Traffic, Crime Prevention, Forensics, and Critical Incident Response officers.

The Citizen’s Police Academy runs Wednesday evenings from March 25 through June 10, and is open to any Chatham-Kent resident 18 and older. Interested applicants must complete an application and submit a copy of their photo identification. Due to the nature of the information shared and activities involved, applicants are also subject to a background check.

The deadline for applications is 3pm on Friday, February 20.
