Are Community Hubs in CK’s Future?

The Municipality wants to know what area residents want from a potential community hub. council5

Ridgetown is one community that is exploring the idea, but General Manager of Health & Family Services April Rietdyk says each community is unique.

“That’s why going out to meet with individuals in all of our communities will allow us to be able to see what are the things that the community wants,” Rietdyk explains. “What are they looking for, what’s already out there, and if they already have a group that’s come together in some form of hub format, can we even maximize that?”

The idea is to include a number of services, including municipal centres, libraries, and community organizations in one central location.

“What we’re hoping to accomplish is by bringing those groups together, sharing some of the back door services: answering phones, internet, some really simple things,” Rietdyk says. “By doing that, does that give us the ability to increase programs and services?”

Several meetings are planned across Chatham-Kent for communities to discuss what their needs are.
