The province has begun the re-opening of some businesses across Ontario.
But many local businesses remain closed.
Some are able to provide customers with curb side pick-up and delivery options, but their bottom line continues to be hit hard.
Some local business owners are pointing out the need for a level playing field.
While garden centres and nurseries have had to remain closed – or provide curb-side or delivery options, many box stores and even local retailers have been able to sell the same goods and products out of their brick and mortal retail locations.
Julie Van Damme and Wallaceburg’s All Seasons Nursery and Flowers are one of those local companies feeling the brunt of these hard times.
“Big box stores that sell groceries are allowed to open their garden centres where many of their flowers look terrible in a week or two, but independent garden centres with knowledge that our customers need, with product that I have been growing since February must be sold by curbside,” says VanDamme in a social media statement.
VanDamme encourages local customers to write or call local MPP Monte McNaughton. McNaughton’s Wallaceburg office opens Tuesday.
