Are You Prepared for an Emergency?

In the aftermath of this week’s tornadoes in Windsor and Essex County, local residents are being reminded to be prepared.

Assistant Fire Chief Bob Davidson says any weather alerts are issued by Environment Canada, but citizens should take it upon themselves to be ready for anything.

“These events happen so quickly that a lot of times, there isn’t a lot of time to get the information out. So we encourage all our residents to access the Environment Canada website themselves, rather than relying on someone else for that information. So by visiting the Environment Canada website, they can access that information directly.”

Davidson also says residents should always have a 72-hour emergency kit on hand, with enough food, water, medical supplies, and other items.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has a checklist of things to help you get started with developing an emergency preparedness plan and kit. Visit the Chatham-Kent website for more details.
