Renovations at Wallaceburg Memorial arena have hit a snag.

Recreation Facilities Supervisor Jane McGee says the opening has been pushed back to September 20th because of a delay with the new rubber flooring.

“The subcontractor who was responsible for the rubberized floor, the delivery was delayed,” McGee says.

Pre-season hockey and other skating activities were expected to resume September 3rd.

While she says it’s unfortunate, everything else with the renovations is continuing on schedule.

“The renovations to the front of the arena, we were on schedule and good to go, the new addition was to follow after.” McGee says. “Ideally we want all eight of our dressing rooms as quickly as we can, but if someone were to ask me which would you prefer to have go in first, I’d say focus on the renovated area so we can continue to operate, and then we’ll continue to cohabitate the arena users with the construction site.”

The Thunderhawks are still set to play their home opener on September 21st.

McGee stresses the renovation delays have nothing to do with the fire back in April.
