Chatham-Kent’s aging ice rinks will be getting some minor fix-ups in the months ahead.

Virtually every arena in the municipality needs some work done, whether it’s mandatory inspections, improvements to flooring, or mechanical improvements.

Over $717,000 has been earmarked for repairs.

Wallaceburg Memorial Arena – the oldest rink in Chatham-Kent – will be getting a new dehumidification unit along with a mandatory structural inspection and some other minor upgrades. That’s on top of the renovations already underway.

One sticking point for a number of councillors was upgrades to the washrooms at Chatham’s Memorial Arena, given the uncertainty of the building’s future.

That item will be brought back for further discussion in another month or so.
