Armed Break-And-Enter Leads To Charges

 

Charges have been laid following a break-and-enter involving a firearm on Walpole Island First Nation.

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police and the Walpole Island Police Service responded to a weapons call at a residence on Tecumseh Road shortly before noon on Friday.

Investigators learned that a man had entered the home, and brandished a firearm before leaving the scene. No injuries have been reported.

Officers located a suspect in the area and safely took him into custody. A firearm was also seized.

As a result, a 38-year-old Walpole Island man is now charged with break-and-enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, pointing a firearm, possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, two counts of failing to comply with a prohibition order, failing to comply with a probation order, assault with a weapon, using a firearm while committing an offence and using an imitation firearm while committing an offence.

Following a bail hearing, the accused was remanded into custody with another court date set for Tuesday.
