Arrest Made After Early Morning Break-And-Enter

A local man is facing charges following a break-and-enter at a Chatham business.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service received a report from a concerned citizen at around 6 a.m. on Sunday, after they witnessed a man exit a business on McGregor Place that had not yet opened for the day.

Officers arrived at the scene and found that an exterior door to the business was open and damage had been caused to the latch.

A suspect who matched the witness’s description was later located, however, when police attempted to take him into custody, he pulled away and pushed the officers.

Authorities also seized an open collapsible knife during the arrest, and the man was under a probation order that prohibited him from possessing weapons.

A 26-year-old Chatham man is now charged with break-and-enter to commit an indictable offence, resisting a peace officer, and failing to comply with a probation order.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
