
A Chatham man has been arrested following a hit-and-run collision between an SUV and a mobility scooter.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said emergency crews responded to a gas station parking lot on Grand Avenue West shortly before 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to police, an SUV was exiting the parking lot when it collided with a 70-year-old man who was driving a mobility scooter. The man was knocked to the ground but was uninjured.
The driver of the SUV failed to remain at the scene, however, officers were able to use CCTV footage of the area to identify a suspect.
A 50-year-old Chatham man was located and arrested a short time later. He is now charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision, failing to report, careless driving and driving while under suspension.
The accused was taken to police headquarters and later released from custody with an August court date.
