A Chatham man has been charged in connection with the theft of thousands of dollars’ worth of wiring.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers initially responded to the theft in Chatham on February 12 just before 1 p.m. after a man removed around 40-50 feet of wiring for light poles at a property on Gregory Drive East, causing damage to the lighting system.
Authorities obtained surveillance footage showing the man leaving the scene in a white SUV. Officers were also able to record the vehicle’s license plate.
A 25-year-old Chatham man was arrested in connection with the wire theft on Thursday. He is now charged with theft over $5,000, mischief over $5,000 and possession of stolen property over $5,000. He has since been released from custody with a May court date.
