Assault charges have been laid against a Chatham man after a violent altercation with a local woman.
Chatham-Kent Police say the man showed up at the victim’s home Sunday evening, despite being under a court order not to communicate with the woman or be in her home.
Authorities say despite the victim’s pleas for him to leave, the man refused and allegedly picked the victim up and dropped her to the floor in an attempt to take her cell phone.
The accused left before officers arrived, but was tracked down the following morning.
The 34-year-old has been charged with assault and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
