A Chatham-Kent man is facing multiple charges following a run-in with police last month.
On July 26th, police responded to a report of a potentially impaired driver in a parking lot on St Clair Street. When officers arrived, the accused allegedly sped through the lot directly towards an officer on foot, who then had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.
The vehicle sped eastbound on Pioneer Line and eventually crashed into a ditch.
The driver tried to run, but was stopped by passersby. The man was then taken to hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the collision.
Further investigation found the vehicle had been reported stolen from Leamington. Additionally, it was revealed that the man was under a probation order from British Columbia, which included specific conditions prohibiting him from operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, as well as banning him from possessing or consuming alcohol, drugs, or any other intoxicating substances that were not prescribed to him.
The 25-year-old accused has since been released from hospital and was arrested on Wednesday. He facing several charges, including possession of stolen property, assault with a weapon, fleeing from a peace officer, dangerous driving, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, impaired driving, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
