A local man is facing nearly a dozen charges following an armed robbery at a convenience store in Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to the robbery on Grand Avenue West at around 11:15 a.m. on Friday.

According to authorities, a man entered the store and attempted to purchase merchandise before threatening another individual with an unspecified weapon. The man then left the convenience store without paying for the items.

Police located a 21-year-old Chatham man nearby and took him into custody. Officers also learned that the suspect was also bound by release conditions prohibiting him from attending the store and possessing any weapons.

As a result, the accused has been charged with disguise with intent, armed robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, possession of stolen property under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, being intoxicated in a public place, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
