Art Exhibit To Focus On Environmental Activism

A new exhibit and event is coming to Thames Art Gallery this month, addressing the topic of environmental catastrophe.

To celebrate the opening of the exhibit “GardenShip and State” the Thames Art Gallery in Chatham will be hosting an afternoon event on Saturday.

With the exhibit featuring 21 artists who engage in decolonial critique and environmental activism, the event will feature a local river clean-up sponsored by the Lower Thames Valley Conversation Authority. The clean-up will take place at Thames Grove from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Gloves, garbage bags, garbage pickers and snacks will be provided.

The event will then continue with a series of festivities at the art gallery from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., including an artist talk featuring co-curators Patrick Mahon and Jeff Thomas, among other artists, and a live interactive performance by Chatham-Kent artist Natty Tremblay.

The GardenShip and State exhibit will remain on display until October 20. For more information, click here.
