A local man has been arrested following an attack in downtown Chatham.

According to police, a youth was riding a scooter through a King Street East parking lot shortly before 9 last night when a man began yelling at them.

The man allegedly picked up a discarded piece of wood and threw it at the victim, causing minor injuries.

Police found the accused a short distance away and learned the man was bound by release conditions prohibiting him from being outside at that time of day and possessing any weapons.

The 50-year-old has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
