Assault Suspect Arrested Again For Bail Violations

A Chatham man who was arrested for assault last week is now facing additional charges for violating his bail conditions.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a 54-year-old Chatham man was arrested on Friday after allegedly assaulting two family members. He attended a bail hearing on Monday and was released from custody with conditions not to communicate with the victims in the case or be within 50 meters of where the victims work, live, or attend school.

However, officers were called to a Park Avenue West residence just before 11 p.m. Monday night, after the accused allegedly breached his conditions by attending the property and attempting to gain access through a rear door.

The man was arrested again and has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He is additionally charged with assault, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats in connection with the initial incident.
