Asymptomatic School Testing Off To A Slow Start

A provincial program to offer voluntary asymptomatic testing for schools is off to a slow start in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton.

Kent Orr is the general manager for CLASS, which coordinates shared school services for the Lambton Kent and St Clair Catholic District School Board.

He says roughly 110 people attend the first testing clinic in Sarnia two weeks ago, and less than 60 showed up to UCC this past Sunday.

“We’ve actually had a lot of transition in the last number of days, confirming LifeLabs as our dedicated partner,” Orr says. “Looks like we’re going to be extending beyond the (originally planned) five weeks. We’re going to be offering a session in Sarnia-Lambton and then alternating back to Chatham-Kent to finish the schedule.”

Dates have now been booked through May 2nd.

The voluntary clinics are offered for students and staff at all four school boards in Chatham-Kent and Lambton County, including the two French boards.

The provincial goal is to have voluntary testing for students and staff at 5% of schools in each board per week.

Test results are sent directly to the Ministry of Education.
