A group of Walpole Island athletes are heading to Toronto today to prepare for the North American Indigenous Games.
Team Ontario Golf Manager, Steve Tooshkenig says as many as 5000 athletes will be competing in 14 sports over the next week.
“We have 8 athletes from Walpole Island First Nation that will be competing in various sports. They’ll be making their way up here on Saturday to get their accreditation and get signed in, and then they’ll get ready for the Opening Ceremonies which is set for Sunday afternoon in Toronto”, says Tooshkenig.
The local athletes will be competing in a number of sports, including volleyball, baseball, and lacrosse.
The games will be streamed live online.
