Charges have been laid after a local man tried to force his way into a Chatham property.
Authorities were contacted by a property manager Thursday morning, who noticed suspicious activity on remote surveillance video at a Richmond Street building, with a man seen banging on the door of an empty residence with a large rock.
Officers arrived and found the accused. Investigators say further video evidence showed the man also tried to gain entry to the building by kicking and pushing on the door, causing roughly $500 worth of damage.
The 56-year-old suspect was arrested and has now been charged with attempted break and enter and mischief under $5000.
He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
