Avian flu has surfaced in Chatham-Kent.
According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the virus was found in a non-commercial property near Charing Cross on March 10th.
A primary control zone has been set up starting at the intersection of Pinehurst Line and Mull Road.
Permits are required for the movement of birds, their products, and by-products through a control zone.
According to the CFIA, highly pathogenic avian flu, or HPAI, is not a food safety concern, and there is no evidence to suggest that eating cooked poultry or eggs could transmit the virus to humans.
