Members of the Bkejwanong First Nations on Walpole Island are preparing to head to the polls to elect a new Chief and council.

The ballot has been set for the upcoming band elections on Walpole Island, with the Chief’s seat and 12 council positions up for grabs.

Incumbent Charles Sampson is facing six other candidates for the Chief’s seats. There are 12 council positions up for grabs with 27 candidates in the running.

There will be two options to cast a ballot – mail-in or in-person at the Walpole Island First Nation Governance Building on September 17th.

First Nations elections are held every 2 years, unlike elections for their Federal, Province or Municipal counterparts.
