Motorists in Wallaceburg will be facing another few weeks of detours as the Base Line Bridge is shut down for the final phase of repairs.

Now through May 5th, the swing bridge will be completely closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic as crews work on paving and completing some remaining parts of the rehabilitation project that began last fall.

Officials say small boats will still be able to pass under the span, but any larger vessels that would need the bridge to open will have to wait until mid-May.

For the following 10 days or so, officials say crews will perform balancing and commissioning of the span from 7am to 5pm on weekdays before it can be fully reopened.

Officials stress all of the work is weather dependent.
