Founded in 1977 as Wallaceburg Woodworking, owner Fernando Coelho first began by making windows and doors at the original location on Water Street. Coelho learned the trade from skilled European craftsmen in his native Portugal before moving to Wallaceburg in 1966.

The business moved to its present location on Highway 40 just south of Wallaceburg after the Water Street location was destroyed by fire in 1984.

The operation became a father and son venture in the mid-90s with Nelson Coelho becoming heavily involved in the family business, offering a wide selection of bedroom furniture locally and through independent furniture stores across Canada.

In a news release, the Coelho family extended their gratitude for the support of their local customers and community.

“You can’t be in business for four decades without the support of the local community,” said Nelson. “Wallaceburg (and area) has been so great to us all these years.”

Bedrooms & More is preparing one final thank you and blowout sale to Chatham-Kent, expected in mid-March.

The Coelhos are building their remaining stock of lumber into some of their most popular products, to be sold at significantly reduced prices. The date of the store’s final send-off and sale will be announced closer to the date.
