Charges have been laid against a Belle River man, accused of driving while impaired in Thamesville.

Chatham-Kent Police received a call around 7 o’clock Saturday night about a suspected drunk driver on Kenesserie Road.

Authorities say when officers arrived, the accused tried to hide in the back of the vehicle, claiming to be the passenger, not the driver.

The 55-year-old was taken to police headquarters, where he allegedly refused to provide a proper breath sample.

The man has now been charged with failure to comply with a demand and driving while impaired. He’ll have to face the charges in court next month.
