An active transportation program that’s become quite popular in other communities could be coming to Chatham-Kent.

A motion will come to tonight’s Chatham-Kent council meeting, asking council to investigate the options and viability of instituting a pilot bike share program in Chatham-Kent.

The purpose of a bike share program would be to give local tourism a boost, while also giving local residents a chance to borrow a bike to ride around.

The motion from South Kent Councillor Mary Clare Latimer asks that Community Attraction and Promotion-Tourism work with other partners, including Public Health and the municipality’s Parks Recreation and Cemeteries department to look into options and viability of instituting a pilot bike share program in CK in 2022, with potential funding from tourism reserves and partner sponsorships.
